Cheddar Bread

Cheddar Bread

I wanted to google homemade cheddar bread and came across this recipe on Martha Stewart’s page.  Let’s face it, is she not the queen of homemaking?  Anyway, this recipe seems simple and straight-forward, which is, as you know, important to me.  I don’t like the recipes that would take a gourmet chef to produce.  I know as soon as my husband sees this post, he’ll be requesting this bread, and so I will be making it for sure, that I guarantee!  Enjoy!

Slow Cooked Chile Verde

Slow Cooked Chile Verde

This is not quite the recipe I use, but it is close.  The recipe I use I have in a cookbook that my former preacher’s wife put together for the church and it’s a recipe from the one of the ladies that attends there.  Hers is a bit simpler, but I wanted to give you a link instead of writing out a recipe that you may not be able to print off.  Her recipe calls for tomatillos, garlic, chopped green chilies (canned) and jalapeno with ground sage, cumin seed and chili flakes.  But, like I said, the recipe is basically the same, I just wanted to do the full closure thing and let you know of a few other ingredients that you can use in addition to the ones listed in the recipe, just keep it as simple as possible, sometimes these recipes are just way to much work to make it worth it!  Of course, that is my humble opinion, so take it as you wish.  Enjoy!

Chicken Cacciatore in a Slow Cooker

Chicken Cacciatore in a Slow Cooker

Just when you thought I had abandoned the whole crock pot thing, behold, a slow cooker recipe!  This looks really simple and a delicious way to serve chicken.  As the recipe recommends, serve it on spaghetti and include the garlic bread because bread is so wonderful and a salad to make sure you’re being healthy.  Enjoy!

Grilled Ratatouille Salad

Grilled Ratatouille Salad

This looks so good to me!  I was trying to find a recipe that used all the wonderful fresh veggies that summer has to offer.  As you know, my husband is an avid gardener and we are neck deep in those fresh veggies.  This recipe looks simple enough; I try to find recipes that you don’t need to be a chef to execute them!  It says to let it cool, but I think you could eat this warm or cold.  Whichever way you choose, enjoy!

Fresh Tomato Salsa (Pico de Gallo)

Fresh Tomato Salsa (Pico de Gallo)

Here’s a recipe that I have actually made, and it was delicious.  My husband is an avid gardener and every year he puts out this fantastic garden.  Right now, we are neck deep in zucchini, crook neck squash, cucumbers and, of course, tomatoes.  We were trying to think of some way to use the tomatoes, other than basic spaghetti sauce and whatever else you can use fresh tomatoes for.  I’m sure there are tons of recipes out there for them, but being that my husband is picky, he suggested salsa.  So, since I had never made salsa before, even though I know it was easy, I didn’t have down all the ingredients that went with it.  So, I found this recipe and I love it.  One word of caution though, put the tomatoes in last in the food processor – I learned this the hard way, and made it first with the tomatoes at the bottom and they were basically pureed before the onions and other ingredients were sufficiently chopped up.  Grab a bag of chips, or make your own and enjoy!

Healthy Potato Salad

Healthy Potato Salad

Below is a link to a healthy potato salad recipe.  I love potato salad; I always add dill to mine, so maybe you might want to add that to the ingredients for this recipe.  It calls for red potatoes, which I love!  I don’t know about the fat-free mayonnaise though, I have never found one that tasted good.  But I need to work on that because I’m trying to live a healthier life-style.  If you know a good tasting fat-free mayo, please let me know in the comments.  Thanks and enjoy!
